Bulgaria: Brewers investments in innovative projects total EUR16.4 mln in H1
Bulgarian brewers invested 32 million levs ($19 million/16.4 million euro) in innovative projects in the first half of 2025, the Union of Brewers in Bulgaria (UBB) said on July 18.
The sector contributed 64 million levs to budget revenues in the January-June period, the UBB said in a press release.
From June to August, Bulgarian brewers produced 1.7 million hectolitres of beer. Beer sales in Bulgaria totalled 1.75 million hectolitres during the review period.
Bulgarian brewers are also reporting significant progress in innovative eco-friendly practices. Compared to 2020, consumption of electricity for the production of one litre of beer has gone down by 40%, while carbon emissions of brewing companies in Bulgaria have declined by 30%.
The UBB members account for 99% of the beer produced in the country. They include major brewing companies such as Bolyarka - VT, Britos, Zagorka, Kamenitza, Carlsberg Bulgaria, Lomsko Pivo and Dorovski Invest, which is behind the Glarus craft beer range, as well as their suppliers of equipment and raw materials.
