Brewing news USA, CA: Track 7 Brewing Co. abruptly closes its doors

Sacramento’s Track 7 Brewing Co. abruptly announced on social media on May 31 it is closing its two Sacramento locations permanently, The Sacramento Bee reported.

The brewery’s message posted to its Facebook and Instagram pages just before noon read that after 13 years serving the region, its Curtis Park and Natomas locations were shutting down effective Saturday, May 31.

“Our brewery & taprooms have permanently closed,” the message read.

“Thank you for your years of patronage! It’s been a fun 13 years.”

Curtis Park taproom manager Sierra Alvarez said staff received a text from the brewery’s owners around 10:30 p.m. on Friday, May 30, saying there would be a meeting at the Natomas location Saturday morning. At the meeting, staff were informed about the immediate closure just two hours before they were set to open for weekend operations.

According to Alvarez, the owners cited financial struggles for why closing was necessary.

“Our owners basically just said that (for) a year and a half, they’ve been trying to make things work (and) it hasn’t been working so unfortunately, Track 7 is going away,” she said.

A Sacramento Bee reporter was not able to immediately reach a representative for the brewing company for comment.

Track 7’s website was locked behind a private log-in screen as of Saturday (May 31) afternoon, and its Facebook page was deleted or made private shortly after the post.

Alvarez and her Curtis Park staff and regulars held an impromptu farewell get-together in front of the business.

The brewery’s employees pooled their “beer bucks,” credits Track 7 gave staff toward buying beer at the taproom, to supply their Saturday regulars and colleagues with drinks on their final day together.

Kalei Asam worked at the Curtis Park location and Track 7’s former restaurant, The Other Side, for four years.

“It’s like a fever dream,” Asam said. “Even last night when we were closing, the air felt really still and ominous. ... We closed this place last night for the last time, forever.”

Asam typically opened the brewery on Saturdays, and she said it was “heartbreaking” to see her regular customers show up to closed doors.

“It’s like a family,” she said. “Our regulars are family, it’s not just beer.”

Vincent Trejo was one of those regulars, who has been coming to the brewery since it first opened in 2012. He said he enjoyed the people and the “friendly environment” Track 7 had.

Ruth Willis owns Delicious Dishez, a food truck that frequently operated out of Track 7 in Curtis Park. She was also blindsided by the closure, having received an email about it Saturday morning after planning to spend the day serving her Cajun food at the taproom.

“(The closure is) devastating,” Willis said. “(Curtis Park) was the main one, and this was the best one, because of (Alvarez) and because of the staff.”

Willis, who had planned to spend a majority of June and July operating out of Track 7, said it was “disheartening” that there was no advance notice given to staff or the community.

“(The owners) didn’t take it into consideration,” she said.

Track 7 opened in 2012 in Curtis Park, at 3747 West Pacific Ave., Suite F. Its Natomas location, at 826 Professor Lane, Suite 100, opened in 2015, according to previous Bee reporting.

Track 7 also had an East Sacramento location that closed in 2022, the Sacramento Business Journal previously reported.
