EU: Barley crop forecast to total 51.62 mln tonnes in 2022/23

The EU Commission’s November barley supply and demand balance estimate puts the EU-27 barley crop in 2022/23 at 51.62 mln tonnes versus 51.444 mln in 2021/22 and 53.957 mln in 2020/21.

Imports are forecast at 1.7 mln tonnes, up from 1.063 and 1.249 mln, respectively.

With barley consumption forecast to reach 42.004 mln tonnes, exports, including malt, could total 9.956 mln tonnes as compared to 10.493 and 10.646 mln tonnes in the two previous marketing years.

Ending stocks are seen at 5.431 mln tonnes, up from 4.072 mln in 2021/22 and 4.526 mln tonnes in 2020/21.
