World: Barley crop forecast up 0.8 mln tonnes
The forecast for barley crop '25 continues to increase, up 0.8 mln tonnes to a total of 149.5 mln tonnes, RMI Analytics said in their October report.
The increase comes from Canada, Argentina, and Australia, plus minor adjustments to both Russia and Ukraine. The six major barley production regions lead a remarkable recovery in barley production (up +9.0 mln tonnes).
This increase production includes an improvement in the availability of malting barley quality with a consequence that malting barley is likely to enter feed channels, a disappointment for farmers.
Early crop26 spring barley area forecasts point towards a global decrease of 2-3% though this decline is tempered by farmers adhering to their crop rotation strategies.
The ongoing trend of increased global production is contributing to an increasingly favourable supply situation that has been evolving over the past few months. When it comes to malting barley, major producing regions: Europe, Canada, Argentina, and Australia face a plentiful supply of quality malting barley in a weak demand environment.
