Canada: Barley crop 2023 provides more than enough selectable malting barley
At 8.9 mln tonnes, Canadas crop 2023 provides more than enough selectable malting barley under the current weak demand picture, RMI Analytics said in their late February report.
As farmers begin to finalize crop 2024 seeding plans, dryness concerns persist across key growing regions in Canada and the USA. Farmers are showing interest to actively sell barley but buyer interest is reduced.
Prices are lower again for both malting and feed barley, in an effort to stay competitive in export trade. Crop 2024 contracts to farmers are at reduced volumes versus last year. Cheaper US corn is pulling barley prices lower as well.
