Barley news World: Barley trade, production forecasts up in USDA’s February report

World barley trade forecast for 2022/23 is increased to 29.916 mln tonnes on a revised forecast of Australia’s barley exports (7.7 mln tonnes vs. 7.5 mln forecast last month), USDA’s February report showed.

The forecast for global barley shipments in 2021/22 is 28.515 mln tonnes.

Barley crop is expected to hit 150.477 mln tonnes in 2022/23, up from 145.925 mln tonnes in 2021/22 and higher than the January forecast of 149.465 mln tonnes. Production forecast is up for Australia (13.7 mln tonnes vs. 13.4 mln last month) and Russia (21.5 mln tonnes vs. 21 mln).

Global barley consumption is expected to increase to 150.733 mln tonnes from 148.37 mln in 2021/22 and ending stocks are seen at 18.092 mln vs. 18.348 mln last crop year.
