World: Barley trade forecast unchanged, production down in USDAs June report
USDAs forecast for global barley trade in 2019-20 is unchanged in their June report at 27.96 mln tonnes vs. 26.362 mln in 2018-19.
Production is seen down from the May report at 152.058 mln tonnes vs. 153.308 mln forecast last month - however, still much higher than the 140.304 mln tonnes harvested in 2018-19. The decrease is largely due to the expectation of a smaller than expected before crop in the EU: 60.7 mln tonnes in the June report vs. 62 mln forecast in May and vs 55.968 mln tonnes in 2018-19.
Total barley consumption is forecast at 149.006 mln tonnes (150.001 mln tonnes in May, 142.364 mln tonnes in 2018-19) and ending stocks at 20.398 mln tonnes (20.072 mln in May, 17.346 mln in 2018-19).
