Canada: Barley-planted area potentially in for 4-5% gain this year
Seeding has begun in southern Canada under reasonable moisture conditions, with a potential for 4-5% gain in barley-planted area, RMI Analytics said in their latest report.
On this good start, a small increase in barley crop25 is forecast at 8.9 mln tonnes, the analysts said.
Most key US barley areas received moisture, but the States barley crop25 US forecast to 3.0 mln tonnes (3.1 mln in crop24), lowest since the 2021 drought.
There is no change in barley export prices, with a continued quiet trade. The US tariff on-again/off-again situation leaves markets functioning normally but uncertainty remains high.
Canadas domestic feed barley prices are higher, supported by a general lack of farmer selling and the recent strength in US corn futures raising feed prices.
