Brewing news USA, TX: Oak Highlands Brewery to move their production facility and taproom to Richardson’s Lockwood District

After ten years in Lake Highlands, Oak Highlands Brewery will move their production facility and taproom to Richardson’s Lockwood District later this year, Advocate Lake Highlands reported on April 3.

“We have some big news to share. The rumors have been floating around for a while, but now it is official,” the company announced via social media.

Final touches are being made at the new location, a stand-alone building at the northwest corner of Central Expressway and Beltline Road, formerly home to Happy Hippie Brewing. It is surrounded by Communion Coffee and Coworking, Dream Café, Lockwood Distilling Company and other local eateries, with rooftops and businesses nearby to add customers day and night. Alamo Drafthouse and more shops sit directly across Beltline Road.

“OHB has enjoyed an amazing ten years just six miles East in the Lake Highlands area,” OHB officials added on social media. “This opportunity allows OHB to move from an industrial park into a high-traffic retail area that is still a convenient drive for our loyal, beer enthusiasts while also creating outstanding exposure to the DFW area at our new location.”

Beer enthusiasts won’t be the only ones sad to see OHB relocate. The facility has hosted many Lake Highlands events over the years, including candidate forums for Dallas mayor, Dallas city council and Richardson ISD school board. Civic groups, homeowner associations, PTAs and other organizations have hosted gatherings, in addition to OHB’s own events. Each week, live music, food competitions, dog rescues, bingo games, trivia contests and other fun has been scheduled at OHB.

OHB was founded in 2015 by retired attorney Brad Mall and geologist Derrin Williams. They enjoyed home brewing for several years together before striking out to create the brewery.

A big farewell party is planned on Saturday, July 26 at the 10484 Brockwood Road location near Royal Lane and 635. The Lockwood spot is expected to open in late spring or early summer.
