Barley news World: Barley S&D forecast mostly unchanged in RMI’s latest report

Global barley supply & demand is mostly unchanged in RMI Analytics’ latest report; on the supply side crop 2022 remains at 151.7 mln tonnes, and crop 2023 is reduced slightly to 147 mln tonnes. The majority of this reduction is the six major barley regions, which are forecast 5.5 mln tonnes down.

Total barley demand (feed and industrial) is also down in crop 2023, as a rebound in global corn production is expected to reduce feed demand for barley.

Exports are slightly lower but in line with longer-term average globally traded volumes, the analysts said.

Barley prices are steady to slightly lower. The exception is French 2 row spring which is firmer. Buyers (e.g. China) are mostly absent or holding lower price targets. Uncertainty regarding the Black Sea Grain Corridor is dominating the wider grain market at the moment, the analysts reported.
