North America: Early reports on malt processing favourable
With good quality crops in the USA (3.77 mln tonnes) and Canada (9.74 mln tonnes) early reports on malt processing are favourable as a very quick transition to crop 2022 is underway following the drought and imported barley situation in crop 2021, RMI Analytics said in their early November report.
Across Alberta, yields exceeded 5-year average by 8-18%, depending on the region, while the Saskatchewan crop outcome is variable in the southwest and west-central areas due to dry conditions.
Low soil moisture levels remain a concern in western Canada. Albertas soil moisture ratings are 40% Poor, 32% Fair, 27% Good, and 1% Excellent. In Saskatchewan, 22% are rated Adequate, 35% Short, and 43% Very Short. Moisture was received during the last two weeks in October, which is helping correct the situation, the analysts reported.
