China: Chinese demand keeps pressure on French barley supplies
China has already booked 2.0 – 2.2 mln tonnes of French new crop feed barley, H. M. Gauger GmbH reported earlier in March.
The nation also needs 3.5 mln tonnes of malting and fair average quality (FAQ) barley per year, for which only 3 suppliers are authorized: Canada, Argentina and France.
According to the Gauger analysts, the Chinese demand will keep the pressure on French supplies, keep French prices at premium levels above other EU markets, and in the worst case endanger domestic supplies in France and the whole EU.
