World: Croatia among worlds top five beer consumers as Germany loses interest in beer
Germany, long seen as one of the worlds beer capitals, is drinking less than ever before, while Croatia has climbed into the global top five for beer consumption, according to newly released data, reports Jutarnji List.
Figures from the German Federal Statistical Office, published on August 1, reveal that beer sales in Germany fell below four billion litres in the first half of this yearthe lowest since records began in 1993. In the past two decades, average annual consumption per person has dropped sharply from 112 litres in 2005 to less than 90 litres today.
A separate 2023 report from Visual Capitalist, which tracks global beer consumption, paints a very different picture for Croatia. While Germany no longer ranks among the top beer-drinking nations, Croatia has secured fifth place worldwide.
The Czech Republic leads the list with a staggering 152.1 litres per person annually, followed by Austria (106.5 litres) and Lithuania (103.3 litres). Ireland takes fourth place with 100.6 litres, while Croatia rounds out the top five with an average of 94.2 litres per resident.
