EU: Malt exports showing further slowdown in May
The EU malt export data shows a further slowdown over the past four weeks versus the previous three years, RMI Analytics reported.
Four months ago, the 2024/25 shipment period was tracking closely with 2022/23, but due to the economic challenges faced by consumers malt volumes are now trailing 2022/23 by 5.0%, after more than two-years of declining beer volumes.
From an origin perspective, the top five countries of EU malt exports are Belgium, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Sweden, led by a large margin by Belgium at nearly ⅓ of all exports.
