North America: Barley crop 2025 seeding slightly better than 5-year average pace
Generally, North American barley crop25 seeding is slightly better than the 5-year average pace with the USA and Canada barley seeding at ~90% complete. The pockets of concern are eastern Saskatchewan, where hot and dry conditions have prevailed, and Montana were planting is behind normal pace due to earlier rain delays, RMI Analytics said in their early June report.
Where rain has fallen it has been varied and moisture levels are not abundant and there is little rain in the forecast. RMIs barley crop forecasts are steady at 8.9 mln tonnes for Canada and 3 mln tonnes for the USA due to lower planted area than that of crop24 (reported at 3.1 mln tonnes).
Canadian barley exports remain at the bottom of the past five crop-years range, evidenced by only 64 thousand tonnes shipped to China in April from a total Chinese import of 1.15 mln tonnes.
