EU: EU winter barley development looking good so far
At a quiet time in the crop cycle, the analysts are keeping an eye on winter barley development which looks good so far, although colder temperatures have arrived, RMI Analytics said in their late January report.
Barley production forecast at 54.45 mln tonnes leaves the supply balance comfortable for the moment, but the tighter malting barley situation needs to be watched closely.
Prices are softer across Europe, as the lack of demand persists. Washouts of contracts is the main activity in Denmark and hints of the crop quality issues being worked through. Small quantities of barley are still being bought by UK maltsters and cargoes are being sold into the continent. Otherwise the market is very quiet.
