Brewing news USA, CO: MobCraft Beer to close Denver location by end of April

MobCraft Beer, a Milwaukee-based craft brewery known for its crowd-sourced beers, announced it will close its Denver location at the end of April, the Milwaukee Business Journal reported on April 13.

The news was shared on MobCraft's Facebook page. MobCraft had opened its second location in September 2022.

MobCraft Beer opened in 2011, originally housed at House of Brews at 4539 Helgesen Drive in Madison. House of Brews has since closed. The brewery moved to the Walker’s Point neighborhood of Milwaukee in 2016 to open its own taproom and brewery location where it has remained since.

In September 2021, the brewery announced significant expansion plans with three new locations planned for Denver; Woodstock, Illinois; and Waterford, southwest of Milwaukee.

The other two locations are still planned at the moment. The Milwaukee Business Journal reached out to MobCraft Beer for additional comment but received no immediate response.

MobCraft's Denver location is at 2403 Champa St. Its last day of operations will be April 23.

In an online letter to MobCraft customers, MobCraft president Henry Schwartz said the closure was due to circumstances including the brewery's "Denver lease and a myriad of unfortunate events." He added that the brewery will continue full operations, including parties and planned events, until April 23.

"It is very difficult to close less than one year after opening. We were just gaining traction, feeling supported by the neighborhood and community, and truly loved contributing to the Denver beer and food scene," Schwartz added in the online letter.

Since opening MobCraft Denver had brewed 14 collaboration beers. Schwartz said the brewery paid over $397,000 in wages to over 30 MobCraft Denver employees and contributed more than $175,000 in taxes to the city, the state, etc.

He added that MobCraft Denver will be donating a percentage of sales from its final week of operations to the Hispanic Restaurant Association, Curtis Park Neighborhood Association, Colorado Brewers Guild and its MobCraft Denver employees.
