Argentina: Barley crop forecast slightly up to 4.9 mln tonnes
Moisture levels remain very good to borderline excessive in Argentina, Uruguay, and southern Brazil. A clearing of weather would be most welcome and to a degree the forecast shows less rain. This would allow much needed drying of soil conditions, as the risk of disease is elevated. It is still early in the crop development timeline and therefore not a major issue for now, but farmers will need to apply crop treatment, RMI Analytics said in their latest report.
Still, the abundance of moisture is a positive overall, and as a result RMIs forecast for Argentina barley crop is raised slightly (0.1 mln tonnes) to 4.9 mln tonnes.
Crop ratings are 93% Good/Excellent for barley, and 98% for wheat, which is a clear indication of the very good early season crop development.
