France: Winter barley crop forecast at up to 11.7 mln tonnes this year

The French crop of 6 row-winter barley is essential for the EU’s total malting barley supplies. Plantings are 1.8 mln ha including 125,000 ha of winter-sown spring barley, H. M. Gauger GmbH reported earlier in May.

MARS forecasts a yield of 6.48 tonnes/ha, which would result in a production of 11.7 mln tonnes of winter barley.

The selection of malting barley is likely to be 3.0 mln tonnes, of which 65% of the variety Faro and only 20% Etincel, the analysts said.
