Brewing news UK & Netherlands: BrewDog and La Trappe release collaboration beer after almost two years in the making

After almost two years in the making, BrewDog and La Trappe have released a collaboration beer called Practise What You Preach, the Grampian Online reported on November 11.

The 10 per cent quadruple ale features heather honey and experimental US hops.

The beer – which launched on the BrewDog online store and in all of its bars on November 11 – has been brewed at La Trappe’s Bierbrouwerij De Koningshoeven B.V in the Netherlands.

Prior to realising the recipe, La Trappe spent time at BrewDog HQ in December 2019 to create a concept that showcases the best of both breweries.

After landing on the quadruple style, which is celebrated worldwide as one of the most complex and significant styles of Trappist beer, both breweries then agreed to add heather honey and experimental US hop, HBC-692.

The beer will be available to try at La Trappe tap takeovers at all UK bars, where BrewDog's crews will be pouring Practise What You Preach alongside La Trappe’s collection of year-round beers.

People can also grab a 330ml bottle of the 10 per cent ale on BrewDog.com, with limited stock available alongside a small selection of glassware and tin signs.

As with many of the products produced by a Trappist brewery, there is a charitable element also involved. A proportion of all profits will go to supporting Dutch charity, Made Blue, which is on a mission to provide access to clean water and hygiene for people all around the world.

BrewDog co-founder Martin Dickie said: "It was winter 2019 when this collaboration was first on the cards, but took a back seat for obvious reasons.

"Finally, we’re so excited to share this truly unique meeting of worlds with you. I was inspired by Trappist beers way back when I was training to be a brewer, and for us to create something alongside this historically iconic brewery is a dream come true.

"The beer itself speaks volumes about this collaboration: rich, boozy, layered with notes of dried fruits and that distinctive Belgian yeast profile.

"It’s big, bold and we may or may not have put some in whisky casks to release later this year."
