Barley news EU & UK: Barley prices continue to decline led by wheat market weakness

Lower barley prices are reported for Europe again, led by wheat market weakness, RMI Analytics said in their latest report.

In France, for crop 2023, both Creil and Mosel markets are down in a similar fashion. In crop 2022, Mosel’s premium over Creil has vanished, which indicates the Germany market has comfortable coverage at the moment.

Farmer selling of crop 2023 at this stage is well below levels of last year, and there is a strong possibility for better than expected yields (meaning even more grain for farmers to still sell). Harvest pressure on prices could be substantial, the analysts believe.

In the UK and Denmark, prices are down as well in line with France’s direction.

Clearly Spain needs to import upwards of 500 thousand tonnes of malting barley, which the UK will continue to supply. Denmark, with a normal crop result, will be fully participating again in export markets. There is dryness in Denmark/Sweden, which is making the trade a bit hesitant to be aggressive sellers, it is reported.
