Canada: Canadian barley prices holding up versus other markets
With wheat markets weaker, barley prices are on the defensive but Canada holds top position versus other markets (e.g. France), RMI Analytics reported this week.
With an empty pipeline due to drought in 2021, Canada wont lead prices lower while the crop still has 6-8 weeks until harvest, the analysts said.
Feed barley prices continue to drift lower, with Lethbridge prices down to C$380 per tonne, delivered (C$400 in the analysts previous report earlier this month). At the same time, imported US corn is now very uncompetitive at higher price levels indicated at C$400/tonne delivered Lethbridge. The result is feeding demand has shifted back to barley.
