UK: Tony Blair lobbied to bring back stamps on beer glasses
Beer fans are lobbying Prime Minister Tony Blair to bring back the traditional crown stamp on pints, The Morning Advertiser published April 19.
An EU directive says all new pint glasses on the market since 30 October 2006 must show the European "CE" mark rather than the crown, which has been used on pints since 1699.
Furious brewery chiefs have already written to Blair calling for the decision to be reversed.
And now 103 people have signed an online petition on the Downing Street website urging the PM "to save the crown on the British beer pint glass".
The petition says: "The crown has been on our glasses for over 300 years and represents a fine British tradition which should be preserved."
