Brewing news Finland: New York’s Brooklyn Brewery beer now available in Finland

This June, Sinebrychoff will introduce two beers from Brooklyn Brewery in Finland, according to 12 May company’s release. Brooklyn Lager and East India Pale Ale are delicious products of the traditional craft brewery. Brooklyn Brewery was founded in New York in 1987. Today its high-quality beverages are well known among beer-enthusiasts all over the world.

Brooklyn Lager has a deep golden colour, and gets its main character from dry hopping. Its flavour has a strong malt centre, supported by floral hops and a touch of bitterness. Caramel malt is prominent in its aftertaste.

East India Pale Ale is a dry hopped, deep golden-coloured beer. It is brewed as a tribute to the traditional East India Pale Ale, which was brewed for English troops in India in the 19th century. East India Pale Ale has a warm, robust taste of citrus fruit and bitters with a hoppy finish.

Brooklyn has always been popular among immigrants. The Germans brought their taste for good beer and brewing skills to the area in the 19th century, and it is due to them that Brooklyn became one of America’s foremost brewing centres. Just 100 years ago, there were 48 breweries in Brooklyn, which gradually went out of business one after another in the 20th century.

In 1987news agency AP correspondent Steve Hindy gave up his day job and founded Brooklyn Brewery with his downstairs neighbour, Tom Potter. Their aim was to bring good beer back to New York. The brewery’s first product was Brooklyn Lager. The company logo and the bottle labels were designed by Milton Glaser – the very man who designed the classic I Love NY logo.

In 1994, esteemed master brewer Garrett Oliver began working at Brooklyn Brewery. New beers developed by Oliver included East India Pale Ale and Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout, in addition to different seasonal and special products. Several of Oliver’s beers have won awards and received international recognition.

Brooklyn Lager won The Beer of the Year title at the Helsinki Beer Festival this year. In addition, Brooklyn Lager was the best in the category of under six-percent bottom yeast beers.

“Beer experts all over the world value Brooklyn Brewery’s products for their taste and character. Beers from Brooklyn Brewery represent Brooklyn’s culture and the area’s long traditions in beer brewing. For these reasons they will certainly generate interest in Finland and are a welcome addition to Sinebrychoff’s already versatile beer selection,” says Sinebrychoff’s Brand Manager Mika Kauppinen.

Oy Sinebrychoff Ab is Finland’s leading manufacturer of beers, ciders, soft drinks and energy drinks. The company’s annual production is approximately 400 million litres. Skilled professionals backed up by 200 years of solid experience and continuous development work create high-quality drinks.

Sinebrychoff is part of the international Carlsberg Breweries A/S group.
