Australia: December-April new crop barley shipments total 4.5 mln tonnes
The Chinese market remains shut for Australian barley: 4.5 mln tonnes of new crop barley were shipped in December 2020 – April 2021 to other destinations, H. M. Gauger GmbH reported.
Of the amount shipped over the reporting period, 240 thousand tonnes of malting barley were delivered to buyers in Japan, Vietnam and Mexico; whereas feed barley volume amounted to 4.23 mln tonnes, of which 1.9 mln tonnes to Saudi Arabia, 730 thousand tonnes to Japan, 1.14 thousand tonnes to Southeast Asia.
2021/22 barley production forecast by ABARES is 10.366 mln tonnes (including Tasmania), but trade estimates are much higher. Winter and spring precipitation will be decisive, the Gauger analysts said.
