Brewing news USA, NY: The Warbler Brewery coming to Delmar on November 25

Delmar will soon be getting a new microbrewery when The Warbler Brewery opens later this month, the Albany Times Union reported on November 16.

The new brewery and tap room owned by award-winning brewer Chris Schell is set to open Nov. 25 at 155 Delaware Ave., where Mercato's restaurant used to be located. The site is across from the Hannaford supermarket.

The Warbler will join The Real McCoy and Royal Meadery, both located in the Four Corners on Hallwood Road, as Delmar micro brewers. The Royal Meadery makes mead, which is a wine-like drink made out of honey. The Real McCoy makes beer.

Schell, a Delmar native, has spent his career making beer for other companies such as Cooperstown Brewing in Milford, Butternuts Beer & Ale in Garrattsville before becoming the head brewer at Robin Hood Brewing in Bellefonte, Pa.

Over the years, Schell has won national and regional brewing awards. He's known for his ability to use ingredients from the culinary world in his beer.

“Over the past decade, I’ve learned to create beers that are fun to drink and appeal to a wide variety of tastes,” Schell said. “I’m passionate about making well-crafted, flavorful beer, and the opportunity to share that with the community is incredibly exciting.”

Schell currently has seven beers listed on his web site, including several ales, including the Wolfjaw Double IPA and the Squeech Blackberry, what Schell calls a "tart" ale, or otherwise known as a sour ale.

The tap room will serve beer either inside or deliver it to patrons with curbside pickup. The tap room will be open initially Thursday to Sunday, noon to 9 p.m.

“The taproom is such a welcoming space, and we worked extremely hard to create an atmosphere that allows people to relax and enjoy themselves,” Schell said. “We want our customers to have fun and feel comfortable while enjoying our beer.”
