Germany: Carlsberg to acquire Wernesgr�ner Brewery

The Carlsberg Group will acquire Wernesgrüner Brewery, a traditional German brewery and beer brand from the Vogtland region of Saxony, Germany, BeverageDaily.com reported on October 12.

Carlsberg will buy the brewery and brand from Germany’s Bitburger Braugruppe, saying it will give the Danish beer giant a better position in its core regions of northern and eastern Germany, as well as bringing it benefits in production and logistics.

“The addition of Wernesgrüner brewery to our supply chain network will improve efficiency and flexibility in production and logistics in our German business," says Carlsberg. "It is a modern and efficient brewery with a capacity of approximately 1 mln hl. In 2019, production volume was approximately 0.5 mln hl, and revenue was €31 mln ($35 mln).”

The transaction is anticipated to complete in January 2021, subject to competition clearance.
