Barley news Australia: ABB Grain’s 2005/2006 season barley pool estimates maintained

ABB Grain has reviewed its gross barley pool indicators for 2005/2006 season barley and has maintained its estimates for both malt and feed barley, according to ABB’s press room, March 15.

ABB’s executive manager group marketing, Gary Spiel, said demand for feed barley had been strong, though many buyers had not covered their forward requirements and the spectre of northern hemisphere crops was rapidly approaching.

He said it was pleasing to note that ABB was now executing the final 2005/2006 pool tonnages.

“There is continued unfilled world demand for malt barley and Australia is well placed to take advantage of this profile,” Mr Spiel said.

“ABB is looking to continue to secure high priced opportunities for malt barley on rising market activity once buyers return to the market following Chinese New Year celebrations.”

Gross estimates for 2005/2006 season barley are:

South Australian pools 2005/2006 season:

No. 1 malting (closed Jan 24, 2006) - AU$225/tonne

No.1 feed (closed Jan 24, 2006) - AU$165/tonne

No.2 malting (opened Jan 24, 2006) - AU$207/tonne

No.2 feed (opened Jan 24, 2006) - AU$152/tonne

Victorian pools 2005/2006 season:

No.1 malting (closed Oct 31, 2005) - AU$230/tonne

No.2 malting (closed Jan 24, 2006) - AU$225/tonne

No.3 malting (opened Jan 24, 2006) - AU$207/tonne

No.1 feed (closed Oct 31, 2005) - AU$170/tonne

No.2 feed (closed Jan 24, 2006) - AU$165/tonne

A AU$5/t premium also applies to Baudin and Sloop malting varieties for 2005/2006 only.
