World: Higher barley production forecast for 2025/26
The global barley outlook is for higher production (145.798 mln tonnes) and trade (28.589 mln tonnes) in 2025/26, but for consumption to be little changed (at 146.387 mln), USDA said in their May report.
Production is forecast higher as larger crops in the European Union, Russia, and China more than offset smaller crops in Kazakhstan, Turkey, Australia, Syria, and Iraq.
Global consumption is nearly unchanged as feed use declines, but FSI consumption is expected to see slight growth.
Global trade is up marginally, as larger exports from Ukraine, the European Union, and Russia outweigh lower trade from Turkey, Australia, and Kazakhstan.
With global production only slightly below global consumption, ending stocks are projected to decline modestly to 18.417 mln tonnes.
