Canada: Barley crop 2025 expected to increase to 8.8 mln tonnes
Canadian barley production is steady across crop’24 at 8.1 mln tonnes; but an increase is expected in crop’25 to 8.8 mln tonnes, RMI Analytics said in their latest report.
Under the current demand environment, this higher production in 2025 should leave supply in a comfortable position, the experts believe.
The main barley production regions of the US and Canada are receiving only scattered levels of moisture. While crop’25 seeding may benefit from drier conditions, there is a need for substantial further in season rainfall.
Current barley exports from Canada are similar to crop’23, but both years are trailing significantly the export levels from crops ‘22, ’21, and ‘20. The return of Chinese barley supply to Australia is a major contributing factor.
