USA, MI: Detroit brewer Mark Rieth acquires majority stake in Lansing Brewing Co.
Mark Rieth, founder and former owner of Atwater Brewery in Detroit, is returning to the Michigan beer scene by acquiring a majority stake in Lansing Brewing Co. and its Hard Nose Spirits, cider, and winery, DBusiness Magazine reported on February 20.
Lansing Brewing Co. has a long history dating back to 1898 before being shuttered during prohibition. Brought back to life in 2015, the brewery is located in the Stadium District.
The brewery offer more than 20 locally brewed beers and ciders at its full-service pub and at select retailers.
I wasnt sure Id come back to the craft beer industry, but Im a certified beer lover and this was a unique opportunity to connect my two favorite cities, Detroit and Lansing, Motor City meets Capital City, says Rieth. LBC is a respected regional brand and allows me to combine my passions for brewing unique, high quality, and easy drinking beers while also supporting Lansing and the Michigan State Spartan community.
The brewery, which offers a full menu, beer to go, and is located at 518 E. Shiawassee St., will maintain its normal service and hours of operation. LBCs Hard Nose Spirits, cider, and winery will continue with plans to add ready-to-drink cocktails in the near future.
Our roots run deep in the Lansing community so finding a partner and leader who celebrates our vision and passion for serving hand crafted hospitality was important to us, says Jeremy McKowen, general manager at LBC. Thats what makes Mark Rieth the perfect fit to elevate LBC further. Hes a proven leader who can build brands while also remaining local and true to your roots.
Rieth also owns Detroit Liquid Ventures, a full-service beverage company which previously launched a line of Old Head Irish style ales all to be brewed in Detroit. The company is committed to locally produced, high-quality craft beer, spirits, RTD cocktails, ciders, wines, and non-alcoholic beverages.
A native Detroiter, Rieths original lagers were brewed in the German tradition; his new beers take a bow to his Irish side and include Old Head Red, Old Head Milk Chocolate Stout, and Old Head Extra Pale Ale. The Old Head products are being offered at area retailers.
With Lansing Brewing Company and its excellent products, plus my line of Detroit made beers, Detroit Liquid Ventures has a strong foundation and is well positioned for growth and expansion in the markets we serve, Rieth says. Were fired up and ready to go.
Detroit Liquid Ventures also offers non-alcoholic products organized under FÜL Beverage, a line of naturally flavored, non-alcoholic beers and sports drink alternatives.
