Barley news Canada: Barley crop 2023 forecast to be slightly higher over crop 2022

RMI Analytics’ barley crop 2023 estimates for the USA and Canada are slightly higher over crop 2022. For Canada, the analysts’ forecast is slightly up to a production of 10.36 mln tonnes. For farmers, barley margins remain competitive versus other crops.

Dry weather conditions across North America, including Mexico, remain a concern for crop 2023.

Canada’s barley export shipments rebounded higher in February (171 thousand tonnes to China).

Export prices are down slightly but remain above other major barley origins, on an FOB basis. Demand is still present for old crop (China).

Feed barley prices in Alberta are steady at CAD415/tonne. Corn prices are cheaper with about 150 thousand tonnes being imported monthly. Corn is expected to remain in feed rations until July.
