Malting news EU: Malt exports expected to be large again in 2022/23

EU malt exports, slightly lower in 2021/22 than a year earlier, are expected large again in 2022/23, H. M. Gauger GmbH said in their July report.

Early sales support the expectation. Beer sales are good in Europe, Southeast Asia, Africa and Latin America. Other malt exporters show problems: Ukraine will hardly produce and export malt; Russian malt is not accepted by most countries and most brewers; the U.S. has lost much of its Mexican market to Australia and Europe; China is uncompetitive after its break-up with Australia. Canada will protect, but also limit its exports to the U.S. and Japan.

This leaves the EU, UK, and Australia to supply most of the deficit countries in the world.
