North America: Extremely problematic weather keeps pressure on barley production forecasts
The situation in North America remains extremely problematic and barley production estimates are being adjusted lower again, RMI Analytics reported.
Canadas crop forecast is down to 7.1 mln tonnes (9.6 mln tonnes last month) and the US down to 2.4 mln tonnes (vs. 2.8 mln).
The prolonged excessive heat and lack of sufficient rains has added further stress to barley crops. The final outcome remains unclear due to wide variability across the growing areas.
While awaiting the final crop results, the local industry is considering various scenarios, barley imports are not being ruled out. The market has no offer for export barley at all.
