France: Winter barley crop large and good quality, spring barley results disappointing so far
France has harvested a large, sound and good quality crop of winter barley. By the end of July about 60 -70% of spring barley had been cut; the core malting regions in the west and center made good progress during the weekend of August 1, before the next rain wave makes combining impossible, H. M. Gauger GmbH reported earlier this month.
Spring barley results are disappointing so far, with low hl-weights and calibration around 80%. Proteins and condition of the harvested barley are correct.
According to the analysts, the low grain size will reduce the selection of malting qualitities.
Agreste estimates a crop of 11.3 mln tonnes of barley, of which 3.35 mln tonnes of spring barley.
