Brewing news Uganda: Nile Breweries HIV/Aids policy named impressive

The Nile Breweries HIV/Aids policy has impressed the American Ambassador, according to New Vision, April 1.

The ambassador was recently touring American-funded HIV/Aids projects at Nile Breweries in Njeru, near Jinja town. Nile Breweries gets financial support for the projects through a local NGO, Business Part, which is supported by USAID.

"This is an impressive HIV/Aids project that has taken care of the fact that the company is not an island, hence including the community, especially truck drivers," Browning said.

Dr. Moses Ocen, the company doctor, said the HIV/Aids programme began in 2002.

"We have so far taken on seven employees who tested positive and gradually embarked on free ARV treatment. Unfortunately, one of them passed away shortly afterwards."

Nick Jenkinson, the Managing Director, said the company had a strict confidentiality code in relation to life-threatening illnesses.

"In the event that any employee at whatever level of employment contravenes this code, he or she would be reprimanded."
