UK: S&N raises by 4% factory gate prices

Scottish & Newcastle has raised its wholesale beer prices by nearly four per cent, The Publican reported March 6.

The increase means the wholesale price of a barrel of S&N beer rises by �9.50, equating to a 3.5p hike in the wholesale price of a pint.

A spokesman for the brewer said the 3.9 per cent duty-exclusive price rise was the result of rising raw material costs, energy prices and wages.

�We absorb as much as we can in the way of price rises that affect us as a producer, but we have to raise prices eventually. We�re committed to only doing it once a year," he said.

The increase was marginally below current RPI (retail price index), he added.
