UK: Kent brewer Shepherd Neame has acquired former freehouse in Ripe

Shepherd Neame has acquired The Lamb Inn, a former freehouse in the rural village of Ripe, for an undisclosed sum, the company released June 05.

Nestled in the South Downs not far from Glyndebourne Opera House and the picturesque town of Lewes, this charming 18th century country pub was originally farmworkers' cottages and once formed part of the Village Hall.

Now, a chequered brick exterior and cosy interior with lots of alcoves give the pub a traditional look and feel. It will be run by licensees Claire and Julian Reynish, former managers of the pub.

Says Shepherd Neame property and tied trade director George Barnes, "The Lamb is a classic country pub and we are delighted to have acquired a quality character pub, which will bring the total number of pubs in our East Sussex estate to 41."

Situated in an area which is popular with walkers, a 2.5 mile circular walk starts and finishes at The Lamb, taking ramblers along country lanes and over fields. Walkers will find welcome refreshment at the pub in the form of a menu of freshly prepared, home-cooked food complemented by a range of Shepherd Neame ales.
