Brewing news Uganda: Uganda Breweries Ltd provides $105,000 to Uganda Rugby Union

Uganda Breweries Limited through their Bell Lager brand have in as many years continued to show their unwavering support for rugby in Uganda by offering US$105,000 (Ush190million) to the Uganda Rugby Union (URU) to facilitate for the 2006/7 season, the East African Business Week posted on May 08.

Bell Lager brand manager Mr Oscar Mulira handed over the dummy cheque to URU's chairman Mr Andrew Owinyi during a press briefing held at Kampala Rugby Football Club located just outside Kampala.

The Ush190 million, which is an increment of Shs90million, will directly cater for the forthcoming Bell Lager League, Rugby Cranes' 2007 World Cup qualifiers, Lady Cranes' CAR Women 7's, International 7's competitions to be hosted by Uganda and the Annual Dinner among other events.

A jovial Mulira said, "We will always be behind URU in their efforts of reaching greater heights", adding, "Our commitment and passion for the game will always be solid".

Owinyi thanked the sponsors and disclosed that the union was dedicated to continue being the National Leaders in sports management and administration, which is an important area in sustaining corporate sponsorship.

East African Breweries Limited (Bell Lager of Uganda and Tusker of Kenya) have also made a partnership to fund the Elgon Cup that shall see Uganda and Kenya face off in two international build-ups on a home and away basis. Uganda will be hosting the first leg on May 13 and Kenya, the return leg on August 12th.
