Hops news World: Global hop harvest lower this year, Barth Haas say

In the 2025 hop year, the global hop harvest was lower than in 2024. Barth Haas’s December overview shows the most important figures and changes for the major growing countries as well as the world total.

Germany harvested 43,141 tonnes of hops in 2025. In 2024 the figure was 46,497 tonnes. This is a difference of 3,356 tonnes or -7.2 %. This is mainly due to a reduction in hop acreage by more than 1,300 ha.

German alpha production amounted to 5,391 tonnes in 2024 and 5,238 tonnes in 2025. This corresponds to a decline of 153 tonnes or -2.8 %.

83 % of the German hop volume was produced in the Hallertau.

In the USA, the hop harvest was 39,495 tonnes in 2024 and 37,098 tonnes in 2025. This corresponds to a difference of -2.397 tonnes or -6.1 %. US alpha production fell from 4,858 tonnes (2024) to 4,460 tonnes (2025). This is -398 tonnes or -8.2 %.

The Czech Republic harvested 6,494 tonnes of hops in 2024 and 6,995 tonnes in 2025. This is an increase of 501 tonnes or +7.7 %.

Slovenia harvested 2,245 tonnes of hops in 2024 and 2,345 tonnes in 2025. This is an increase of 100 tonnes or + 4.5 %.

Poland harvested 2,953 tonnes of hops in 2024 and 2,770 tonnes in 2025. The difference is -183 tonnes, which corresponds to -6.2 %.

Worldwide, 113,839 tonnes of hops were harvested in 2024 and 108,319 tonnes in 2025. The difference is -5.520 tonnes or -4.8 %.

Global alpha production amounted to 12,354 tonnes in 2024 and 11,854 tonnes in 2025. This is a decline of 500 tonnes or -4.1 %.

Based on the global alpha volume in 2025, a theoretical brewing potential of 2.1 billion hectolitres of beer can be derived.
