Brewing news USA, CO: Sanitas Brewing Company to close the doors of all its three locations

A brewery with locations in Englewood, Boulder and Lafayette is set to close its doors to all three locations before the end of the year due to rising operational costs, kdvr.com reported on November 21.

Sanitas Brewing Company made the announcement on November 14 in a post on Facebook, inviting customers to celebrate over a decade of brewing before the tentative closing date of Dec. 20.

The company said in a press release that it has faced challenges that many in the craft beer industry and general economy face, and it explored options but ultimately decided to close the company aligning with what is best for the company and its people.

Sanitas has served as a gathering place for coworkers, friends, families and four-legged friends, and has hosted numerous events and celebrations over the years. Their beer has won many awards, been served on tap at hundreds of bars and has even made it internationally with thousands of cases shipped to Sweden more than once.

The brewery said it wanted to be a third space for the community when it first opened in 2023, and the company feels it has achieved and surpassed that goal.

The Englewood and Boulder locations both shared a space with other businesses.

Bradford McDevitt, owner of McDevitt Taco Supply, told FOX31 that he first opened his taco cart on the Pearl Street Mall 15 years ago, and later commissioned a new cart that would take home at Sanitas.

“We’ve served an unbelievable number of tacos out of a 72-square-foot restaurant on wheels, and some of my favorite events and memories in Boulder happened in that backyard,” McDevitt said.

McDevitt said they will pause operations at Sanitas when it closes and said the future is uncertain, but his business is luckily flexible, being on wheels. He said if the right person or group comes to the Boulder location, he would love to continue serving tacos there.

In the meantime, they have a restaurant on Baseline Road just over two miles away, as well as a rooftop location in the River North Arts District of Denver.

As for Atlas Coffee at the Englewood location, a spokesperson told FOX31 that they don’t have a clear answer for their plans after the closure yet. They have been sub-leasing the space from Sanitas and are having conversations with other stakeholders about what is next. Atlas Coffee said it hopes to have a better idea of its plans in the coming weeks.

C Burger also operates at the Englewood location. FOX31 reached out to see what its plans are and has not yet heard back.

Sanitas thanked its many customers, partners, employees and community members for making their run possible and invites everyone to come celebrate with one last “cheers.”
