Peru: Heat wave brings increase in beer consumption
The heat wave in Peru has generated an increase in the consumption of alcoholic beverages in January, FreshlyBottled.com reports.
Although the recession hit beer sales hard last year: not only did beer production fall by 5.1 percent between January and September 2023, but overall household consumption fell, due to the difficult economic situation of the country.
However, thanks to the strong heat wave in these first two months, beer sales have increased up to 50 percent more compared to 2023 data.
The sale of beer corresponds to around 25 percent of winery sales in Peru. According to Andrés Choy, president of the Peruvian Winery Association, to RPP: Now we are in the summer season and the heat is very strong and there are many people who consume beer as an element to cool off. Our sales have increased by more or less 50 percent during the summer campaign.
