USA, MS: Altered Reality Brewing starting to take shape in downtown Biloxi
A new craft brewery is starting to take shape in downtown Biloxi, WLOX reported on February 27.
Co-owners Jason Weaver and Michael Massey of Altered Reality Brewing met during a festival when Weaver asked Massey what type of beer he was drinking.
After trying and loving the beer, Massey invited Weaver over to start the process of making beer together.
It took us a little while, Weaver said. We entered a few competitions. We won a few of them as a home brewery against actual breweries. And the name came. This is a passion of ours. What if we can turn a passion into a reality? What if we can alter our reality?
After crafting the plan, the next stop was location planning.
Jason and I had several discussions of location, Massey said. We saw a lot of growth potential, particularly in the downtown Howard Avenue area. And Jason happened to be driving by and saw the building and we fell in love with the area.
Stage three of the plan is now in play. Altered Reality gave WLOX News a breakdown of how they make their award-winning brews.
Each one of these vats is 3.5 barrels or a little over 100 gallons, Massey explained. So at any given time, we can have up to 300 gallons of three different beers fermenting. Once the fermentation process is done, we move it over to our brite tank, where we carbonate the beer. And from here, the beer is moved over to kegs and we store those kegs in our cold storage.
They can even create custom brews for special events like birthdays and anniversaries.
In addition to the family and pet-friendly environment on-site, they also want to have weekly runs with the community to explore the Coast.
And Ive got a pretty cool route picked out, Weaver noted. Its exactly 3.1 miles or a 5K. Just to show people that theres other things in the area by just running by and being able to see all this great area thats in the downtown Biloxi area. "
Just to add to the benefits of the run, everyone participating in the run gets a free beer.
Both Massey and Weaver say they are excited to open up and see what their new reality brings.
Altered Reality will have a ribbon cutting on March 22 and a grand opening on March 23.
