Russia & Ukraine: Both countries see barley crop conditions turn to benign after difficult start

Barley exports in July 2020 - May 2021 were 5.5 mln tonnes from Russia and 4.0 mln tonnes from Ukraine (of which 2.8 mln to China), H. M. Gauger GmbH said in their June report.

After a difficult start crop conditions in both countries have turned to benign, prospects are for large and good quality crops.

In spite of the recently introduced export tax Russia is expected to be again the most aggressive seller of wheat and barley in the first half of the new crop year.

The Ukrainian trade will concentrate on shipments to China, anticipated shipments are 3.0 mln tonnes of barley and 11.0 mln tonnes of corn.
