Brewing news Brazil: Number of breweries up 14.4% in 2020

The number of brewing companies continues to increase in Brazil. According to Anuario da Cerveja 2020 published on April 30 by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Food Supply, there was a total of 1,383 breweries active in the country in 2020 – up 14.4% from 2019.

Last year, 204 new breweries were launched in Brazil versus 30 that got closed down. Besides, for the first time since the records are held, all federal units had at least one new brewery open on their territory – including the first production facility of this category in the state of Acre.

The southern and south-eastern regions of the country are still leading in terms of the number of brewing companies, with 85.6% of the total number based there.
