Hops news World: Hop acreage forecast to stay stable but output could rise again

During two video conferences of the International Hop Growers Convention (IHGC) first estimations for the development of world hop acreage in 2021 were made. It is expected to stay comparatively stable with a maximum increase of approximately 500 ha (less than 1%) compared to last year, HVG reported earlier this month.

Assuming average yields, the world hops output this year could total 129 thousand tonnes, up from 124.4 thousand tonnes in 2020, IHGC forecasts.

The US and Germany, the world’s largest hop producers, are both expected to harvest a larger crop this year.

The global alpha acid output is forecast to increase to 13.5 thousand tonnes from 13.1 thousand last year.
