Barley news Australia: New barley crop forecasts range from 10 to 12 mln tonnes

As barley drilling is about to begin, soil moisture is reported good from all parts of Australia, H. M. Gauger GmbH said in their April report.

New South Wales, in past years troubled by record droughts, received extremely heavy rainfalls during March, which destroyed towns and agrilands near the coast, but are considered positive for the 2021/22 grain crops in the state.

Old barley crop numbers are still between 13.1 and 13.9 mln tonnes, new crop forecasts range from 10 to 12 mln tonnes.

Barley exports of 880,000 tonnes in January included 35 thousand tonnes of malting barley to Mexico, and feed barley: 440 thousand tonnes to Saudi Arabia, 85 thousand to other Arab Peninsula countries, 123 thousand tonnes to Thailand, 57 thousand tonnes to Vietnam. This shows that Australia successfully manages to replace the China business, and feed barley finds new customers as a consequence of high corn prices.
