Russia & Ukraine: Barley exports to-date ahead of last years
The Russian wheat crop is outstanding, exports as of the beginning of November were 15.5 mln tonnes vs. 13.9 mln last year. Farmers sales are drying up, and Moscow has announced a quota system for the second half of the campaign, H. M. Gauger GmbH reported earlier in November.
Russian barley exports were 2.3 mln tonnes in July-October vs. 1.3 mln tonnes in 2019/20.
The Ukrainian corn crop, which looked like a 40 mln tonnes record still in August, is now put at approximately 30 mln tonnes. There are reports of serious farmers defaults on corn deliveries, possibly sanctioned by the government and endangering the export program.
The Ukrainian barley surplus of 4.0 4.5 mln tonnes disappears quickly. Total stocks as of October 1 were 2.0 mln vs. 2.8 mln tonnes last year. According to local sources, as of early November, 3.4 mln tonnes had been shipped or were being loaded in Black Sea ports, of which approximately 3-4 mln tonnes to China.
