Barley news France: Steady increase forecast for French malting barley prices throughout the remainder of 2025

The price of French malting barley has generally decreased since the beginning of 2022, showing a steady downward trend with some fluctuations along the way. Recently, there has been a slight upward movement in prices as attention shifts to crop’25 and its associated premium. Looking ahead, the price trajectory over the next 4-6 weeks will largely depend on weather conditions, RMI Analytics said in their latest report.

From a broader perspective, global supply and demand remain relatively constrained. Any significant weather disruptions or a resurgence in demand could push prices higher.

RMI’s statistical analysis forecasts a steady increase in French malting barley prices throughout the remainder of 2025. This projection is largely driven by seasonal influences, as seen in the current weather-dependent market, where rainfall patterns are crucial. Any negative impact on yields could have substantial effects due to the delicate balance of global supply and demand. French prices play a crucial role in determining worldwide trends for malting barley prices. After more than two years of low demand, eventually a rebound is anticipated.

The brewing industry continues to face challenges due to low demand for malting barley. Early reports for beer volumes in 2025 have been less than encouraging, as reflected in the financial statements of major brewers.

However, with summer 2025 on the horizon, there remains an opportunity for a rebound in both beer volumes and demand for malting barley. The ongoing dry conditions across much of northern Europe could influence prices upward, while Australia is experiencing similar drier weather, which could further constrain global barley production in 2025.
