World: Malting barley prices generally up across the world
Malting barley prices are generally up across the board, as wheat market strength is spilling over to impact barley price, RMI Analytics said in their latest report.
The crop 2023 values are highly indicative, as actual trade in old crop is minimal to non-existent. Yet, the price levels confirm two key factors: the existence of any remaining old crop barley across Europe is extremely limited, and the markets nervousness about crop 2024 prospects has increased further.
French prices responded quickly to wheats sharp rally, driven by problems in Russia (dry conditions and frost impacts). Global barley prices continue with France leading the way as the most expensive origin; Canada mostly stable; and Australia and Argentina values moving higher in response to the general tone of higher prices. Generally, a lack of farmer selling is pushing the trade to increase price offers, the analysts said.
